Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk this week announced an enhanced partnership with local leading independent school, Ipswich School.
Already a keen supporter of the campaign, sponsoring a large sculpture and fundraising for two young Elmers, Ipswich School have recently taken on a new role as Associate Education Partner, alongside lead Education Partner, Suffolk Agricultural Association.
St Elizabeth Hospice’s next big art trail, which comes to Ipswich from June to September 2019, has a strong education element, with a range of opportunities for all those participating, including a dedicated resource pack that is directly related to Key Stages 1 and 2 of the curriculum.
Ipswich School Headmaster Nicholas Weaver said:
“The opportunities to celebrate art, reading and getting outdoors are all part of what makes Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk such an exciting campaign to be involved with, as well as raising money for a community charity. These are all things which we are passionate about at Ipswich School, and we hope that other schools and community groups will join in too.”

“The participation of educational establishments such as Ipswich School is invaluable to the campaign. They have been a fantastic supporter of the campaign so far and we are excited to see what else we can develop together to help other groups participate. With only 25 places remaining in Elmer’s Learning Herd, this partnership couldn’t have come at a better time; we hope it will encourage even more groups to get involved.”
By pledging to raise £750, participating groups not only receive a free young Elmer sculpture to design, decorate, display, and then keep for themselves, but are also entered into a competition where the top fundraiser will win a full size Elmer sculpture of their own to keep. The winner will be based on fundraising per head which means even the smallest groups and schools have the chance to win.
Elmer’s Big Parade Suffolk follows the successful ‘Pigs Gone Wild’ art trail in 2016, which raised £200,000 for the hospice – enough to fund one week’s care – and was a highlight of the summer for Ipswich, boosting both visitor numbers and the economy. The campaign is once again being run in conjunction with public art event specialists, Wild in Art, as well as new partner, children’s publisher Andersen Press, which has published Elmer since 1989.
